The First Doorway
Amulets.
An amulet has never been about what it is worth. It is a symbol you carry, chosen for what it means. This is where every Angel begins.

The Materials
Three metals. Three meanings.
Every amulet carries the same symbol. What changes with the material is not the meaning - it is how long the piece will last, and which metal's tradition you choose to carry with it.
I · Iron Alloy
Protection
Iron is the oldest protective metal we have. Iron nails above the door, iron at the threshold, iron carried against harm - the tradition runs through European, Middle Eastern and Indian folk practice alike.
In Kemet it had another name entirely. Before iron was smelted, the only iron Egypt knew fell from the sky - bia-n-pet, "iron from the sky." It was worked into ceremonial objects, never tools. The blade buried with Tutankhamun is meteoric iron.
II · Gold Plate
Sovereignty
Gold was called the flesh of the gods - the one metal that does not tarnish, corrode or age. It was the material of things meant to outlast the person wearing them.
Plated over the base metal, gold gives the amulet the colour and the warmth of the solar metal, and holds its finish far longer than bare alloy. Traditionally associated with Ra, the sun, and the right to be seen.
III · Solid Gold or Silver
Permanence
For the small amulets only - the Ankh, the Isis, the forms meant to be worn against the skin every day and never taken off. Solid metal through, nothing to wear away.
Gold is the sun, Ra, sovereignty. Silver is the moon, Isis and Thoth - reflection, intuition, seeing what is actually there.
From silver to gold.
From the moon to the sun.
From matter to spirit.
